Membership Fees

If you don't want to commit to a full membership, why not become an Aspire20 cardholder?

If you are receiving benefit, we also offer an Aspire 40 card , which gives up to 40% discount off many activities at our facilities. Contact GL1 reception on 0845 643 4203 for more details.

Qualifying details for concessionary Aspire membership, Aspire20 or Aspire40 cards are as follows:

Senior Citizens - aged over 60 yrs (proof of age required)

Couples - you and your partner, living at the same address.

Allowable criteria for those 'on benefit'.

We currently offer 'Aspire 40 ' concessions to the following categories:

Job Seekers Allowance  (contribution or income based) Proof required : letter from Job Centre confirming allowance
Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) is a benefit for unemployed people who are looking for work. You can claim JSA if all of these apply to you:
· you're able to work
· you're available for work
· you're actively looking for work
You must also be:
· under the State Pension age (65 for men and 60 for women)
· not working, or working less than 16 hours a week on average
· living in the UK


On a Work based Learning for Adults scheme (WBLA)
Proof required : Letter of confirmation on headed paper from training agency or job centre, ES4 or income support book.
Work Based Learning for Adults (WBLA) is a voluntary full-time training programme mainly aimed at people aged 25 and over who have been unemployed for six months or longer and are claiming Jobseekers Allowance or another qualifying benefit.

Incapacity Benefit (all levels) Proof required : letter from Benefits Agency confirming allowance or allowance book.
If you are suffering from short or long-term illness, you may be eligible to receive the Incapacity Benefit.  The benefit is not means tested and in most cases depends on your record of National Insurance Contributions.  You may be eligible to claim Incapacity Benefits if you are below 60 for women or 65 for men.  You must also be unable to work because of disability or ill health, cannot claim statutory sick pay, and have been paid or credited with a minimum amount of National Insurance Contributions in one of the last two tax years.

Attendance Allowance Proof required : letter from Benefits Agency confirming allowance or allowance book.
Attendance Allowance (AA) is a tax-free benefit for people aged 65 or over who need help with personal care because they are physically or mentally disabled.

Disability Living Allowance (personal or mobility help)
Proof required : letter from Benefits Agency confirming allowance or allowance book.
Disability Living Allowance - sometimes referred to as DLA - is a tax-free benefit for children and adults who need help with personal care or have walking difficulties because they are physically or mentally disabled.

Industrial Injuries Benefit Proof required : letter from Benefits Agency confirming allowance or allowance book.
For people who are disabled as a result of a disease or deafness caused by work in certain occupations covered by the IIDB scheme

Carers Allowance Proof required : Letter from Benefits Agency confirming allowance or order book and name of carer.
Carer's Allowance is a benefit to help people who look after someone who is disabled. You do not have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for.

Guaranteed Pension Credit
Proof required :  Letter from benefits agency confirming allowance or allowance book.
Benefit for people aged 60 and over with a low or modest income.

Council Tax Benefit (not single persons allowance)
Proof required : Council Tax Benefit confirmation letter or Council Tax benefit book.
If you're on a low income, or you live with another adult (not your partner) who's on a low income, you may be able to claim Council Tax Benefit

Housing Benefit Proof required : Letter from Housing Benefits confirming benefits award.
Housing Benefit is a benefit for people on a low income to help them pay their rent.

Income Support Proof required : Letter from benefits agency confirming allowance or allowance book.
Income Support is an income-related benefit which provides financial help for certain people who are not currently in the employment field  and whose income, from all sources, is below a minimum level set by Parliament.

Asylum seekers
Proof required : Identity card or IS96, SAL1 or SAL2 forms.
An asylum seeker is somebody who is waiting for their application for 'refugee status' to be assessed by the government.
Horizons 'resident on benefit' memberships are NOT available for wives, husbands, children or partners of the person receiving benefit.


**For those on benefit, proof of benefit must be shown when applying for or renewing any Aspire Card.

Please Note: All proofs of name and address must be less than 6 months old

Proof of name and address
- we will accept any of the following: driving license, council tax bill or book, gas/electric/telephone bill etc., bank statement, PO savings book, a family allowance book, medical card, a rental agreement or a letter certifying residence from an official body such as a local doctor, dentist, solicitor, bank manager or Housing Association manager
· Proof of age - only if applying for a senior citizen (over 60 years),  junior (under 16 ) or tots (under 5) card.
· Please Note : If your benefit is a 'joint' claim and your partner's surname is different, you must show evidence of sharing the same address, e.g. a letter addressed to both of you.
