Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust headline sponsors Gloucestershire Sports Awards
- 16 November 2018
- Super User
The Gloucestershire Sports Awards saw another year of success, celebration and triumph with Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust at the helm as headline sponsor.
On Thursday 1st November, sporting champions from across the county came together under one roof in recognition of their contribution to sport. Ten awards were up for grabs, including Outstanding Services to Sport in Gloucestershire and Sports Personality of the Year, the latter sponsored by Aspire.
Sporting individuals, teams and clubs from grassroots to professional competitors were all present for the event, which is recognised as the leading one of its kind in the county.
Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust has a close affiliation with Gloucestershire Sports Awards, having maintained headline sponsorship for a number of consecutive years.
The Trust's Chief Executive, Jacquie Douglas, presented the Sports Personality of the Year Award to Charlie Denman, a racerunner who has taken home the 400m gold at the World CP Games in Barcelona this year, as well as one silver and two bronze medals – all in the space of two years.
Charlie, who also took away the Disabled Sports Performer of the Year trophy, has set her sights on the Paris 2024 Paralympics when the sport will be featured for the first time.
Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust Chair Person, Caroline Rawlinson, also presented the Junior Team of the Year Award, which went to the Stroud High School U15 Handball squad. The team recently won their way to the final of the Under 15 girls’ competition in the National Schools Finals. Three players are also in the Great Britain age group squad.
On sponsoring the awards, Jacquie Douglas, said:
“Aspire Sports and Cultural Trust has a long association with the Gloucestershire Sports Awards and we are delighted, once again, to be the headline sponsor of this years’ event. Aspire is a registered charity whose purpose is to ‘provide an active life for all the family’, with a mission of getting everyone to ‘Aspire to do more’.
Even though we are a small charity, we believe passionately in the benefits of sport and physical activity. It is for this reason not only are we sponsoring this year’s event but we also lead in the challenge to provide opportunities for everyone to get active and live a healthy and fulfilling life.”
“I would like to say a big thank you to all the clubs, volunteers, officials, team managers and parents who support sporting activity in our County.
Sport and physical activity, in all it’s guises, forms the cornerstone of our wellbeing and health and Aspire’s latest initiative, Lunar City, at our GL1 facility is a great example of how people of all ages can be and get active together.”
