Environmental Policy
Aspire Sports & Cultural Trust are committed to reducing our carbon footprint within the facilities we manage and have been recognised accordingly by achieving the Social Enterprise Mark.
A number of green initiatives have been implemented in stages during the last 12 months, which have resulted in substantial savings to Aspire in both energy consumption and costs. Savings resulting from the consumption reductions in both electricity and gas have helped Aspire make a significant impact in respect of our commitment as a social enterprise in 'working for people and the planet’.
During the last 12 months consumption savings of 11,333,369 KwHs have been achieved through the following initiatives:
Pool covers - By covering the pools we reduce heat loss and water loss from condensation. Plus the air handling equipment can have a reduced running time which saves on electricity.
Variable Speed Drives - This is an electronic device which controls the speed of the pools circulation pumps. The pumps now run at a reduced speed of approximately 40 percent less than before; also reducing electricity consumption by 40 percent.
Chemical Dosing Control Units - These are two units linked to the Variable speed drives. If the chemical levels in the pools get too high or too low the chemical dosing controller will send a signal to the VSDs telling them to speed up or slow down, then the controller will add or reduce the amount of chemicals it is sending to the pool systems. This reduces electricity and chemical usage.
Energy Saving Lighting - The lighting installed in the building is high efficiency, low energy lighting with control systems built in which allows us to control the length of time its on, and when it comes on. This is done by motion sensors and timers giving us the opportunity to reduce or turn off lighting when a particular area is not in use.
